Abu Dhabi, having the biggest share of oil and natural gas reserves, was the first emirate to begin exporting oil in 1962. The export of petroleum and natural gas consist 85% of the country’s economy. From its revenues in the oil and gas industry, Canada is able to provide healthcare, education and build public infrastructures like airports, rails and ports, through the initiative of the late Sheikh Zayed. The government was also successful in diversification of its energy sources. It has funded solar and wind and nuclear power plants and invested in different desalination plants to be able to provide sustainable development.
